About Us
Fjällräven was born out of 1 man’s imaginative and prescient: a imaginative and prescient to make nature accessible to extra individuals.
Åke Nordin was born in Örnsköldsvik, on Sweden’s Excessive Coast, in 1936. Combining rolling hills, deep forests and sheltered shoreline it was the right playground for a younger, curious Åke. And it was on one among his many adventures that the seed for Fjällräven was planted, deep in Åke’s thoughts.
The concept arose out of necessity: to create a backpack that swallowed up gear, however sat comfortably on his again. Åke knew there should be a approach. Together with his mom’s stitching machine and his father’s instruments, Åke created a wooden-framed backpack in his basement. And with it, the seed was sown. 10 years later, in 1960, in that very same basement, Åke based Fjällräven and launched his first product on the market. Guess what’s was? Yep, a backpack; this time with an aluminium body.
In the course of the Sixties and 70s, fuelled by Åke’s cussed perception that there should at all times be a approach – a sensible answer –the Fjällräven product vary expanded considerably, with tents, sleeping luggage, jackets and trousers. The Greenland Jacket, the Expedition Down Jacket and the Kånken backpack proved to be defining merchandise.
